Simple. Simple. Simple.
I want to talk to you about simplifying your life. Lately I find myself becoming more and more streamlined in my existence. I don’t know about you but it feels good to be, not only free from clutter and excess anything, but to also live a very simple, easy, and gentle life. I find there is great value in this as it has actual health benefits and our nervous system is so grateful when we keep it simple.
This doesn’t come naturally to all but I will admit mine has been developing over time. I have always been one to live a very organized life but the simplicity came more recently, as I passed 50.
It is extremely important to me to live a very mindful, and purposeful life. The simplicity slides in there because it just makes everything easier; and it makes good sense.
How would you say you live?
Is it simple, or mindful in some ways?
Are there aspects of chaos, stress, or when things feel a bit complicated?
If there were ways to simplify life would you want to?
What does that even mean to you?
Dive in with me.
Steps to Simple Living
Snail Mail
Go paperless in every way possible. Cancel every magazine, catalogue, newspaper, and newsletter you don’t need. Ask to be taken off mailing lists of every single piece of junk mail you receive. Slowly over time you will notice a much lighter mailbox and one less thing to deal with. Making your life simpler in small ways adds up to very substantial rewards over time.
Emails
Same applies to all emails. Unsubscribe from everything you don’t need taking up space in your inbox. Another great note to be mindful of is don’t send emails unless it is absolutely necessary. It is an act of kindness towards another’s inbox and not filling it unless it is important, has value, or brings joy. Clear, clear, clear people. Less is less and more is not more. Keep it simple and free up the space in your inbox; and in your life.
Cell phone/Computer
My favorite word is edit. I encourage you to edit, edit, edit and then edit some more. Do you really need all those apps on your phone? I don’t think so. ☺ Clear what you don’t need; don’t use, don’t like; same goes for your computer. Go through photos, music, documents, old emails and anything taking up space. Just because you have the storage doesn’t mean you need to use it. You know they say the more free storage you have the better your device works? Well, that’s true in life as well. Keep clearing people!
Purse / Backpack / Fanny Pack
Whatever floats your boat, but keep it simple and clean. Only keep what you absolutely need. Often times it is simply wallet, keys, perhaps a pen, eyeglasses, health/medication items, and possibly a make up bag. Take a few minutes and clear out everything you don’t need and lighten your load.
Kitchen
Clear out the old and keep what you love. Check expiration dates and only keep what you actually will use, and again, brings you joy. No need to have a pantry packed with stuff if half of it isn’t healthy, many are expired, and some items you might not use anymore. Simplify your kitchen and get rid of what you don’t like, use, or need. Keep it simple and I promise you will be happier as you open your fridge and see fresh, delicious healthy sustenance awaiting you.
Car
Ah, our secret spot for keeping a bunch of stuff that we either might need, or most likely haven’t gotten around to tending to. Again, simplify, simplify, simplify. Go to your car and take everything out and put it in a bag and bring it in your house. Sit down and edit. Done. That’s it. Keep what you need; get rid of what you don’t.
Free Up Your Space
As you can see, I could keep going but I think you get the gist. Remember the note about lightening your load and just because you have the space, cubic feet or bytes of data, doesn’t mean you need to fill it. If our devices run better with more free space available for all the processes to work more efficiently, think of how much better we can live our lives with less, a simpler existence, and more space available to process life better.
Dive into your life and see how simple you can make your experience. What does simple living look like to you? Share your thoughts with me. I am here to guide you in any way you need.
Sending love and blessings of good health, a peaceful existence and a simple life.
